By Ross | Judges Critiques

TMrs J Pounds Oriental Cat Association Critiques 2015hank you Irene and John for the invitation to judge at this lovely show in its large new venue. There were lots of gorgeous and very interesting cats to judge. Thank you to Irene Roos for stewarding for me and for her wonderful gentle handling of the cats and excellent company. Lunch was great too!

Class 544 Oriental Classic or Mackerel Tabby Kitten

1 & BOB Brownrigg’s Hemlock Neon Jungle OSH em 22 M 10.03.15

Very handsome apricot classic tabby kitten, just old enough to be at the show. He has a longer pinched wedge balanced by his large, flared, open based ears and width across the top. Nice straight profile with a good depth of chin, bite that is very marginally scissored over and olive green eyes of oriental set and shape, but held full when out of his pen. He has a well grown, long, lithe, firm little body of excellent weight with slender legs, neat oval paws and a long whip tail. The tabby markings are in a pleasing shade of sound, dense warm apricot with the ground colour being a paler apricot. The butterfly marking over the shoulders is just visible with the body of the butterfly being clearer than the wings which are quite hard to see properly at present. From the butterfly there are three parallel lines running down the back to the tail, separated by the paler apricot ground colour. The centre line of the three which runs down the spine is solid until about an inch from the base of the tail where it breaks up. On each flank there is a large, solid oyster with broken rings around it – one oyster being better than the other. The belly is a paler apricot and has a spotted pattern all over it. He also has broken necklaces, a clear M, extensive barring on all four legs, ribbons, thumb prints and a well ringed tail with a paler tip. Lovely coat which is short, close lying, fine textured and glossy. I much enjoyed judging this lovely kitten with his interesting pattern and listening to his very vocal commentary!

Class 586 Tabby Point Adult

BOB not awarded to Miller’s GRCH Mafdet Quicksilver SIA n 21 M 15.09.13

I love this boy and am so very sorry to have had to withhold Best of Breed, but unfortunately as soon as I picked him up I could feel that his sternum was out. Verified by the Duty Vet.

Class 602 Balinese Kitten

1 & BOB Browning’s Pippastro Montagu BAL n M 01.01.15

Well grown Balinese kitten of lovely type. He has a medium wedge with large, well set, open based ears that have hairy tips and good width between them. Nice straight profile, firm chin, level bite and slightly dull blue, rather small eyes with one eye looking a little sore. The body is strong looking, heavy and of good length with slim legs, neat oval paws and a long plume like tapered tail. Dark seal points on the head but the legs are warmer toned and the colour on the tail is diffuse. Both the plume and the coat length are commensurate with the age of this kitten and the texture is fine and silky.

2 Ross’ Willowsilk Cranberry BAL em 21 M 14.11.14

Another well grown Balinese boy of overall good type. He has a medium wedge with good sized, well furnished ears which he holds a tad high and fair width across the top. Lovely straight profile with a firm chin, acceptable bite and slightly full mid blue eyes which need more depth of colour. This is a strong looking boy with a long body of excellent substance, long legs and a long tapered tail to balance. He has clear hot, apricot tabby markings with an M, ribbons, leg barring and tail rings all visible. The clear warm creamy white coat could ideally be just a little longer and I would prefer to see a slightly better developed plume, but both are coming along well. Superb well prepared coat that lies flat along the body and has a very silky, fine texture. Very laid back, gentle boy.

Class 609 Non Breeders Siamese / Balinese Adult

1 Elliott’s CH Jomese Pazzazz At-Serapis SIA d M

Very handsome and well grown red boy of just over 11 months old. He has a well balanced head with large, well set, open based ears and a good top of head. Lovely straight profile with a firm chin, level bite and brilliant blue eyes of oriental set and shape which have a slightly worried expression. The body is of good length and weight with long slim legs and a long whip tail to balance. Bright red points contrast well with the warm white body which has just a little tonal shading. Short, close coat which feels a little dry. This is a boy who obviously likes to go undercover but is actually quite pleased to see you when you manage to unearth him from his blankets!

2 Withers’ Nightqueen Nirvana SIA c F

Very pretty and feminine looking young girl of just 9 months old. She has a medium wedge with large flared well set ears and a broad top line. Profile straight apart from a small dip and she has a firm chin, level bite and beautifully shaped deep blue eyes. Elegant long slender body with slim legs, oval paws and a long whip tail. The  clear, unshaded coat is very short and close lying with lilac points that are starting to look as though they have a brown tinge to them. I do wonder if she could be a lilac based caramel rather than a lilac? Lovely girl.

3 Miller’s GRCH Mafdet Quicksilver SIA n 21 M

4 Roper’s Hemlock Kiss From A Rose SIA n F

Class 616 Senior Oriental Adult

1 Miller’s GRCH Pashtan Rhapsody OSH b F

Mature Havana girl of overall good type. She has a medium pinched wedge with large, well set ears that follow the lines of her head and a broad top. There is a small dip to the profile and a shallow skull depression, untidy and marginally undershot bite and a slightly receding chin. The eyes are mid green with a wicked expression and of oriental set and shape. Long, elegant body of good weight with slender legs and a long tapered tail. The coat is quite unsound and a slightly dark but warm toned chestnut brown with ghost spots on the sides and ghost leg bars. There are also random white hairs scattered across her shoulders. Very glossy, short close coat.

Class 639 Kitten Having Won a Breed Class

1 Browning’s Pippastro Montagu BAL n M

Class 644 Male Kitten

1 Musson’s Whalleybush Abracadabra SIA n M

Young seal point boy of very good type and style. He is seven and a half months old. He has a medium wedge with a small pinch and large, very well set, open based ears with excellent width between. Straight profile with a good depth of chin, level bite and deep blue eyes of excellent set and shape. He has a long, lithe body of good weight and a long whip tail to balance. The seal points are a little dark but still have some warmth and he has only a little tonal shading on his cream body. Well prepared, short close fitting coat.

2 Driscoll’s Nwayioma’s Blue Boy Levi OSH a 24 M

Oriental blue spotted tabby boy of five months old. He has a medium wedge with a narrow muzzle and good sized ears which could do with a little more width between them. Almost straight profile with a firm chin, level bite and clear green eyes of oriental set and shape. Long, firm little body with slender legs, oval paws and a whip tail which balances There are large round spots along his sides, but many are linked and have agouti invasion, with smaller spots sprinkled over his shoulders and under his tummy. The spine line is starting to break up and he has leg bars, facial ribbons, broken necklaces, whisker spots and a very well ringed tail. The darkish blue tabby markings have a cool beige ground colour and are a little unsound as yet. Slightly long coat with a silky texture.

Class 669 Breed 24 Siamese / Balinese Neuter

1 Hargraves PR Debikat Orpheus SIA n MN

Class 673 Radius Neuter

1 Jackson’s CH & IGRPR Adzwoam Kinky Boots SIA m FN

Class 684 OCA Oriental Longhair Neuter

1 Whitby’s IGRCH & PR Pippastro Tigermoth OLH ks 11 FN

Very attractive caramel tortie silver shaded Oriental Longhair mature lady of lovely type and style. She has a strong, balanced head with good sized, well furnished ears that follow the lines of her wedge. The profile is good with just a small rise between the eyes and she has a level bite, chin that falls back minimally and mid green eyes of excellent set and shape. This very gentle girl has a long, strong and heavy body, slim legs and a well plumed, tapered tail that needs an inch. The caramel tortie coat is well mottled with shades of apricot and has a silver undercoat which comes approx two thirds of the way up the hair shaft. The coat is of medium length and fine and silky in texture. It lies mostly flat along the body and there is a ruff. This girl was an absolute pleasure to handle and beautifully presented.

Class 698 NS & OCS Siamese/Balinese/ Oriental Adult, Kitten or Neuter

1 Hocken’s Hydinisy Coco Chanel SIA f F

Class 690 SCA Siamese / Balinese Neuter

1 Ross’ PR Dibberpuss Dreamer BAL n 21 MN

Majestic looking, large, mature boy of good type with a medium, balanced wedge and good sized well set and well furnished ears with balancing width between. Lovely straight profile, firm chin, acceptable bite and brilliant blue eyes of lovely set and shape. Long, strong and masculine looking body with slender legs, large tufted paws and a long tapered, well plumed tail. The darker seal tabby markings are clear to see, with an M, double ribbons, whisker spots, leg bars and indistinct tail rings. There is some tonal shading on the body. Good length of coat lying flat along the sides of the body, with a ruff and of a silky, fine texture. Seemed to be really enjoying his day. Very gentle, well mannered boy.

Class 703 CCC Siamese / Balinese Oriental Adult, Kitten or Neuter

1 Sharp-Popples CH Denson My Favourite OSH b F

Young lady of overall good type. She has a longer pinched wedge with good sized ears that follow the lines of her head. Good profile with a firm chin, acceptable bite and goldy green eyes that she was holding a tad full today. Lovely long and elegant body with a graceful neck, slim legs and a long tapered tail to balance. Rich, warm chestnut coat that is mainly sound and has ghost tabby markings on the legs but is highly glossy, short and close lying. Cool, calm and collected and enjoying her day.

2 Ross’ CH Dibberpuss Smartie BAL f F

Very pretty and feminine looking seal tortie Balinese girl of good type. She has a medium wedge with well furnished ears that could ideally be slightly larger and need just a tad more width between them. Lovely straight profile, good depth of chin, level bite and brilliant blue, rather full eyes. Longish body of excellent weight, with slender legs and a well plumed tail that needs an inch. Darkish seal points, well mottled with bright reds and some tonal body shading. The coat is of reasonable length, well groomed and lying flat along the body. It is fine and silky in texture.

3 Sharp-Popple’s Denson Adelaide OSH b F

Very pretty little girl of eleven months but at present looks like a much younger kitten. She is very dainty with a medium wedge and good sized ears which she holds a little high and she needs more width across the top. Her profile is virtually straight and she has a firm chin and level bite with oriental eyes of good set and shape but that are more yellow than green. She has a compact, firm little body of good weight with slim legs, tiny oval paws and a long whip tail with a tiny indiscretion at the tip. Lovely and mainly sound rich warm chestnut brown coat that has ghost leg bars and spots and some white hairs in the groin. Very glossy, short, fine coat. Perhaps needs time at home to grow up a little more.
